Warlords,
Though these first words will betray the purpose of this letter many of you have already read the announcement on warlordccg.com. It truly is with a heavy heart that I write to you. The time has come to draw the curtain on the printed version of the CCG.
Warlord has been both a great game and an amazing community. Warlord was a great success for AEG and for many years it was a major hit. However in recent times and for reasons as varied as they are numerous, the game is no longer financially viable for AEG.
As you know we attempted to find ways to continue the product with the Warlord Advisory Team, made up of leaders of the community. They came up with many ideas for promoting the game and thoughts on how to do a new edition. However, after much discussion with both distributors and retailers, we have no choice but to bring the battles of the Deverenians, Elves, and Nothrog to an end.
This is especially difficult for me, but I wanted to be the one to tell you. As you know, Warlord has been a huge part of my life. I would not be where I am today without it. I wanted nothing more than to find a way to make Warlord a hit yet again, but in the end it was not to be. After many months of debating, John Z and I finally realized that we were thinking with our hearts and not with our heads, and right now AEG needs leadership that thinks with their heads.
I met some of the best people I’ve ever known during my time in Warlord. The creation of the Temple of Lore took me from a small town in Mississippi to now the Brand Manager of L5R, one of the longest running and respected CCGs in the market. I know that few are interested in hearing this right now, but I do hope that many of you will come join me on the “other side.”
Thank you all for enjoying our product. The times at KoHIT, GenCon, the Conquests, and more spent with you guys was among the most enjoyable in AEGs history. I personally won’t forget being dogpiled at the MidSouthCon multiplayer, or watching players race around the Strategic Warlord tables at KoHIT. The homemade mead at KoHIT was pretty nice too… The fun that you all had with us was all we could have asked for, and we hope those good memories will stay with you in the years to come.
Thank you,
Todd C. Rowland
