Re: New player returning! (Trying a Cube)
Why Gorzhek and Grudurk? I'd go one or the other. Not sure what I'd swap in. Maybe Darast?

Re: New player returning! (Trying a Cube)
I meant to go with 60, the 50 in the draft pool and the 10 additional starting army characters per faction. I just recounted and I only messed up on Devs and Derfs. Where should the extra 5 slots go? The distribution is already pretty good, but maybe some more level 2's to make drafting a start easier? Good idea. I'll keep Grudurk, and Gorzhek becomes Darast.

Re: New player returning! (Trying a Cube)
This is just my opinion, but I would think that there would be less level 1 and 2 devs, and less level 5 elves. Also, for the mercenaries, I would include maybe 2 level 6 (Dragons and/or Monsters) and a level 7.

Re: New player returning! (Trying a Cube)
Okay, so I decided to go the power route, using almost all of the powerful open cards, I can always tone it down after testing it, but right now, I'm looking for volunteers to just draft, and build a deck from your draft choices, so I can compare decks and see if there is any problem in the drafting. The way I have it set up, is each player gets 4 packs of 15 cards each. and after the draft, they can choose from the following warlords: Adonis the Cozener Madriga Commander Kaiten Dallen Stormlost Jodin Drac Duchess Brymin Sjonegaard Ahdi Akhar Tresspass Grace Hearthpride King Xod Durin Kortouched Etra Bloodvine Ahdre Saunginel Behlial Rustiq Umbala Thekem Netheryn Adarymy Niobe Iam Unsullied Captain Alera Raylor Magicbane Albrecht Black Tom of Corinth Dorath Sa'dul Allisara The Nemesis Xiathe Shah'syss Grantuk Rageblade Goth'ak Sargok Scyrax Taoth Uthanak
and they can choose from the following starting army characters if they were unable to draft a starting army(they are meant to be weak to encourage players to draft most of their starting army): Sir Diotram Squire Edonloc Squire Kelanor Bruin Lenoire Lady Beatrix Dirge Faith Loner Ash Rage Quinthe Osis Tansiq Fethinos Cymaniel Guenivere Keziah Sali Timothy Windson Sir Wallence Halberdier Mourn Imp Devon Harper Tanner Trollson Xeralis Keridwen Draljaca Tar Maddawc Ac'vuk Dakat Gorzhek

Re: New player returning! (Trying a Cube)
If anyone has tested an actual cube, report here so we can determine what's the best way to draft, which characters are too narrow, etc. Let's get all the feedback we can!

Re: New player returning! (Trying a Cube)
I'm still trading for mine also. My playgroup is awaiting the cube's completion and since it's summer most of us have plenty of time to run a few rounds with it. I'm hoping to have feedback by the end of July.

Re: New player returning! (Trying a Cube)
From testing this out so far, one thing I've definitely realized, is that you are going to have to give out about 4 packs per person (so 4*15=60 cards per person) so your total card pool is going to be 60 times the number of people you are drafting with. so, lets say 8 people means your total card pool would be at least 480, probably round up to 500. divided by 12 (1 for each faction=6 +1 for each class=10, +1 for Classless/multiclass actions/items, and .5 extra for mercenary and .5 extra for classless/multiclass actions and items). That equals about 42 per faction and class, except for mercenaries and classless/multiclass actions/items which would be about 63 (with an extra mercenary and classless/multiclass action/item every other rotation). That's the way I would do it, and will probably fix it up to work after this round of testing is done.
As for the actual card selections, level 7 characters and higher probably shouldn't be included, level 6 actions definitely shouldn't unless you have a draftable warlord who can cast if without any help (such as Jodin Drac and level 6 fighter action). And level 10 items should definitely be few and far inbetween (aka, only the real powerful ones might be considered).
The rest of the results will have to wait until after my round of testing is done and we have some draft decks to look at.

Re: New player returning! (Trying a Cube)
I tested the half of my cube that I have assembled tonight, and there were no real issues. All 3 of us were able to draft a starting army (we luckily all picked different factions). We only played 1 game. Some highlights: Taoth's spells missing all game long, but Ballista Crew land a hit on Lady of Mercy (who failed Stealth even with Aida in the discard). Magma Gargoyle (with Griffon of Misear) + Devastating Charge = power-I Lady of Mercy pitches to turn her Judge Aeacus evil. He immediately falls victim to Distrust. "I attack, targeting your gargoyle." "Which one? They're all Gargoyles" (Thank you, Thekk Rockbender ) "The wounded one." "Which wounded one? There's two" "Arrrg...The Rumbling Gargoyle"

Re: New player returning! (Trying a Cube)
Oh, also, after watching the draft, I don't see any reason to have a warlord list, maybe just a banned warlord list instead. And I'm probably going to work on the default starters some more, for when the starters don't get drafted

Re: New player returning! (Trying a Cube)
So my Cube is about 10 cards away from "complete" and I have done 3 rounds of playtesting with it so far. Here's what I've been able to determine already: Drafting a complete army, including the start, is not at all difficult with up to 6 players. (No tests done with 8 yet). Even when multiple players select the same faction or class, solid decks are still possible. It helps to sit farther from someone drafting the same Faction, but you can be sitting between 2 players selecting the same class and STILL get plenty of goodies. Since the packs contain a set distribution, it is easy for most players to get to the tools they need - but also easy to determine what everyone else needs. Do NOT sleep on the Dwarves. Magma Gargoyle will mess you up. For some reason, pack #2 is always the best one.

Re: New player returning! (Trying a Cube)
We still play the Cube regularly, and I haven't updated since the new set yet. Most of the playgroup here agree that it is fairly well balanced...we have had winners from every class and faction and in most combinations.
