Postmortem: Winter Warfare Campaign - Los Angeles
Pocky. Sweet. Tasty. Satisfying. Addicting. That just about says it all. This has virtually nothing to do with our event. It was just funnier to start that way. As much as this sounds like tooting our own horn or patting ourselves on the back, We did a damn fine job. The event was well-attended, started on time, ran-smoothly, and nobody died. There was plenty of agony and laughter. Frequently one led to the other. Another huge round of thanks to my partners on the Tournament Team: DoctorFuzion, AragornROR, and LittleAngus for all their hard work and dedication. I just sat back, watched, and took all the credit. For more about the great folks that did this, read this: Thank You Everyone! And another special thanks to MomofDavid. She worked for hours on Thursday and Friday night to cut and fold the deckboxes: I should go and reward her with sex. And we're off! Swiss Qualifier for the Singles Championship. In the foreground is Oliver Eagle (Prison_Bob) vs Daniel Gore (fintago). Dennis Dreischmeyer (Dev_Knight) vs Efrain Astorga (Fay de Astorga) in the final match. I'm sure we'd all rather look at Allie Dreischmeyer than Dennis. Chris Schoenthal (AragornROR) vs Michael Zaret (Maxus) in the Turncoat Final. Warlord: The Next Generation It's a cage match between Mary Ellen Eagle and Aerin Carmelia. Roy Esquivel vs Tony Williams (wanderer) in the Singles Qualifier. Mike Zaret (Maxus) in the center playing Fred Carmelia (LittleAngus). Rami Silverman (Rami) is on Mike's right. No con photoessay would be complete without a picture of Rich Carter (kerebrus) in the hat. The hat is in two other pictures. Can you find it? Because you can't have too many pictures of Mary Ellen. Best Line of the Con: Would you like a cookie, little girl? by DadofDavid.Tepheroth survived some serious threats from dutchess via Dev_Knight. I'm still dead tired, but really happy. Thank you all! Results to follow:

Re: Postmortem: Winter Warfare Campaign - Los Angeles
I wanted to anser this question since the other thread was locked: It is not likely that the set will actually get to people more than 7-14 days prior to the event. This means only people who preordered a playset at $300 will have an opportunity for full access to the cards and be able to playtest their decks against the new meta prior to the event. Buying cards or making the trip should not be a choice people should need to make. There is a reason why specific rules are in place for legality. I hope the TO of the main event at KublCon sticks with the official rules and religates the new set to side events (such as sealed).

Re: Postmortem: Winter Warfare Campaign - Los Angeles
That finals match in doubles was a nail-biter. Kudos to Chris for pulling a 20 out of his ass so that we didn't have to play a 3rd game. I didn't really want to face that dwarven meat wall again. And Don, there's absolutely no mention of mashed potatoes in here. I'm appalled.

Re: Postmortem: Winter Warfare Campaign - Los Angeles
I think most of that was covered in another thread, but I wasn't there for the first three rounds of the finals (serious props again to Mike for handling that). Perhaps Mike or someone who was there (like you, f'rinstance) might know that. I guess the first round was: Rami (Niobe) v Roy E (Yahia) Roy H (Scyrax) v Gregorio (Logan) Dennis (Dimitir) v Rich (Taisia) Tony (Yahia) v Efrain (Krenthor) I think Mike re-seeded the matchups rather than go with a single-elim bracket, so I'm not sure about the Round 2 pairings. But I think the other thread picked up from here. And, at the risk of pulling a muscle from patting myself on the back... We've got pictures from the event, results, AND decklists up by the next day! Damn. We ARE good.

Re: Postmortem: Winter Warfare Campaign - Los Angeles
There is now. Especially since it will be ME at the helm shipping cards to the players. I could always make sure that no one actually receives their stuff until AFTER Kubla.

Re: Postmortem: Winter Warfare Campaign - Los Angeles
Yo, I meant no offense. You have done an excellent job, particularly considering the situation. I was just thinking with all of the typical production delays and the cards being shipped over the pond we would be lucky to see new cards until right before KublaCon. Truth to tell, I would rather see an event that helps to shape the new meta but the timing is just off by a few weeks to make it a fair fight.

Re: Postmortem: Winter Warfare Campaign - Los Angeles
No offense taken. I was just trying to be funny. I agree with your position on the release. The timing couldn't have been worse. There is no way that enough cards could get out into the environment in time for the event. The good thing (for PI) is that this will help turnout for a sealed deck event, plus, since I hope to be at Kubla, I can take product with me.

Re: Postmortem: Winter Warfare Campaign - Los Angeles
Don - thank you for running the event (with father's little helpers) and for putting up what is probably the best immediate official tournament report Warlord has ever had.
I almost fell of my chair.
There are several guys in the US in the running for Warlord's best fans, but Don is right at the top. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Re: Postmortem: Winter Warfare Campaign - Los Angeles
Don's enthusiasm and ability to motivate people (to Gary Glitter's Rock & Roll pt. 2 I might add) mixed with Fred's ability to work with the convention and general niceness (which makes up for my general jerkyness), add a cup of Chris's rules knowledge and fun, with a dash of my event managing experience...and of course you're going to have an awesome event! Not to sound egotistical here, but we're a damn good bunch of folks when it comes to this kind of stuff. Hell, the results would have been up Saturday and Sunday night had the hotel actually been able to provide the free internet to me they promised. For those interested, we tracked the information with the Mantis software...which while easier to use than DCI, is a pain in the ass when it comes to pairing. For the next large event, I'm going to take it upon myself to relearn DCI and set that up correctly. For those that attended the event and took pictures (tony, don, and others), please email them to me! I'm going to get a real email list going for everyone who attended and that way we can all enjoy them. Starting this month, we're going to revamp the Warlord socal list into the WARLORD WEST COAST group! (Wanderer gets to be our east coast mascot ) Wait for details coming in Regional Discussion soon!
