 Gethseme Advice
Hi all. I've just gotten back into the game since the germans took over. I've been poking my head into the boards keeping an eye on stuff, but i've only been playing again for a week. So to the point, the first deck i want to make is Gethseme. Durring my time away, i've gotten attached to the dwarf ranger archetype. So what are your general thoughts on Princess Steelshard?

 Re: Gethseme Advice
well she's not a ranger. typical playstyle is to heal her. your options are pretty limited there. I know jersey guys don't bother with healing outside of medicine. why don't you make a list.

 Re: Gethseme Advice
Yeah, not in bold type, but she's a monster hunter and her artwork doesnt show her weilding a giant axe in a mine somewhere, so she fits best of any of the dwarf warlords. Is there any way to move this to List Discussions if i do? i dont want to break rules. At the moment, Atone and Kohn make up most of my healing for her, along with one brawl and surge.

 Re: Gethseme Advice
List Thusfar: Gethseme’s Royal Guard Gethseme Pendulum x 1 Barb x 1 Blunder x 3 Darkness x 2 Linnea Warsong x 2 Brawl x 1 Salvage x 2 Atone x 3 Sky x 1 Hurlx1 Kohn peacehand x 1 Roshni x 1 Mentor x 1 Helt royalwarden x 1 (mostly for flavor purpose) Leap of Clouds x 3 Backstab x 3 Alert x 3 Meet at the Inn x 3 (dwarfs need their beer) Too Fast to See x 3 Dueling Saber x 3 Blacksand trap x 2 Axe of Tergoth x 1 Tanning Knife x 1 (seems only right they’d have one) Bardiche x 1 Garrotte x 2 Brunter’s Helm x 2 Scale Mail x 1 Griffon of Misear x 2 Squire’s Banner x 1 Gloves of Mischeif x 1 Baraxton Courage x 2 (dwarf beer) Between Helt, Gloves of Mischief and The squire’s banner, I tried to make a sort of barrier for Gethseme’s wounds. If she gets too many, there are a bunch of ways to prevent them. I’m also pretty big into flavor, so the dwarf beer, tanning knife, and Helt are all there for seemingly fun story reasons. ? ?

 Re: Gethseme Advice
As long as it fits story wise for you, 3 profits and 2 walls would give you a more stable and much more affective start. try putting in one Pinions vise. Now that you have 2 starting clerics and you have more in the deck run 3 sacrifice.

 Re: Gethseme Advice
do cards like sacrifice work? the wording on Gethseme makes it sound like she has to sustain a wound and then have it take off on an entirely different round.

 Re: Gethseme Advice
You are correct in thinking that. You have to take the wound. The start that was recommended to me and that a recent local Winter Campaign confirmed, is 3 Profit/1 Arla/1 Wall. It was perfect. You will typically move Arla back and fall Gethseme forward. Then in later turns you will typically be able to add +6 or more to her ATK for the round. Which helped me a lot. There are several different Gethseme archetypes I suppose. You could go for far-reaching kill shots considering the fighter/rogue action pool, a fast front line strike generating build with a smidge of healing when the characters that manage to live long enough do wound you, a build type achieving high AC and then using Arla to bump your ATK, an army deck, and a chain-saw type. That's what I played, was the chain saw. That's one of the most intriguing things about her is that there's no one way to play her. For your deck, I'd either plan on sitting back, drinking "dwarven beer", and equipping items for awhile, or I'd lose the level 6+ items all-together. That means no Gloves of Mischief. If you are going to stay back there, consider cleaning up your items a bit and think about what you'd want your Gethseme to look like once she's fully decked out in gear. Do you want to see her equipped with Cuirass of the Elements, Frostscale, Bruntor's Helm, Blacksand Trap, Shadow Token, Belt of Bear, Gloves of Mischief, Camel, Face Kit, Havat-lahn Stance, Wyvern Gem, Axe of Tergoth, Squire's Banner? Then you might want to include some of those as well as some characters that can equip extras lying around and just have her sit in the back rank for the first few turns. The problem with that is that your games will take 40+ minutes to finish. I think your deck as-is takes awhile to finish as well because it's a little unfocused. I also don't see anyone who can legally play Too Fast to See. What do you want to do with the deck? It's hard to get a sense of direction from what you have listed.

 Re: Gethseme Advice
Ah ha, Too Fast is illegal isnt it? Just a natural reaction to throw it into a rogue warlord's deck. Innitially, my intention was to do a blitz of multi-wound strikes via backstab, sky, her natural ability, and now wyvern gem. Additionally, i figured since scale mail was all i had, i'd add some protectors to take the damage. I know her ability is focused around her actually taking wounds, but i figure it's better to have the redirection when i need it then not have it in that crucial moment. As far as items go, i agree, there are too many. Originally i had three Hurls in the deck so i stacked weapons up, thinking it'd be fun to chuck them. But as i pushed him out, i never recoutned the idea that i dont need umpteen items and salvage to get them back. Gimme a mug and a couple hours and i'll have the list rewritten. Thanks Gents!

 Re: Gethseme Advice
ok, took your suggestions and switched a couple of things out. I can already tell it's going to work better. So here it is:
Gethseme Profit x 3 wall x 1 arla favorsight x 1 Darkness x 2 sky x 1 salvage x 1 atone x 3 brawl x 1 hurl x 1 kohn x 1 surge x 2 roshni x 1 Mentor x 1 Helt royalwarden x 1
Zaina's treachery x 3 alert x 3 backstab x 3 leap of clouds x 3 meet at the inn x 3
havat lahn stance x 1 blacksand trap x 2 garotte x 2 griffin of misear x 3 bardiche x 1 wyvern gem x 2 squire's banner x1 brunter's helm x 2 duelling saber x 3 scale mail x 1 tanning knife x 1 baraxton courage x1
Still a little spread out... almost highlander, really. I'm confined to what i've got, but i can try to trade for stuff if i know what to look for. Anyway, most of the time i dont have trouble with low level characters since arla sits back in two until some bigger boys end up spend/stunning up, and they just build off of each other. What do you think?

 Re: Gethseme Advice
I'm probably just daft, but submerge always confused me. One With the Blade is fun though, i'll have to toss a couple in. Atm, i'm trying to figure out what out of the new set to drop in. At the moment, Blazing Medallion is definately going in.
