As we discussed in the other Morghen thread, recursion might not be the way to go. Menhitiri just plain does that better now. Morghen's true power is (as always) his "6HP," allowing for tactics that would make most spellcasters cringe. Weren't you the one who told me to always make room for item hate?

Morghen's recursion is much different than Menhetiri's recursion. Morghen uses low level recursion and is more of a blitz. Menhetiri's recursion is more for sustaining ranks and building. I think Morghen blitz-recursion is decent right now, thanks to cards like Bloodstone Rose and Rethriel.

-1 Tresven, +1 Mairead. You need her to turn off FreeK decks.

A good player can play around Mairead. It slows it down a bit, but otherwise does nothing.

I'd like to know how you simply "play around" her static text, especially if she's just sitting around in the back where it's safe.

They still have good stats and can equip weapons and bash face. My rabinus deck tested many times vs her in a variety of decks and it did not stop the train. Bobby can still win with them and Niobe can and keziah can... So what is Barrett cant warg out or nellia not bullrush?

The equivalent would be running sedyah Rowan and other such cards vs sir Robert. Robert will just kick your teeth in if he has to. That is my point.

So basically, you're saying that a Lycan-centered deck is *so strong* that the printed meta against it is useless.

the "printed meta" is as effective as the "printed meta" vs readying. Take that for what it is. If I play Mairead, and you have a Barrett in hand and you are running, say, Alera. Is it really going to hose you? sure dude can't bear out, but he still can smash, he can still equip items. Alera will still smash my face because I am running Mairead instead of, you know, a better card. and over the course of the tourney, I will lose out more than you will because I am running a subpar character in my deck while you are running a well tuned deck full of smash.

If you run a freek lycan deck, and your opponent plays Mairead, you have a better shot of T8 than he or she does, and you can still pull out a win based solely on the strength of your cards and deck. Not one person runs Sedayah Rowan unless Etra is the warlord. The same will be true of Mairead.

Mairead is not Counterspell. She is not Entomb. She is not Final Blessing. She is good against certain decks, and I would bet that if you were playing a deck with Mairead in it in a tourney, and you were not facing down a field of lycans only decks, you would see that she would have been better as almost any other card in your deck, or any card you took out of your deck for her.

John has the right of it. Maired is a cute trick but far from worth running out of faction on the off chance that you're gonna hit a lycan deck.

The odds of facing a lycan deck are very good in the current environment. I've faced one at every WC I have been to this year so far (RI, CT, NJ). That said, I can see that she has a place/limitation.

Lycan-centered decks have been around for a while now, before there was any access to Mairead. I don't think its worth the tempo loss. I'd probably only run her out of faction in Mad Mel, because he can pull off that kind of meta and still keep up with the game.
