I think he is pretty much talking to himself and imagining her response... I will have to reread it since I haven't read it since it was first posted....
If I change my opinion after re-reading it, I will let you know...

To be fair, Rathe and Alia are both elves. Since when is it insane for a living elf to talk to a dead elf and actually have the dead elf respond?
Tepheroth compelled Rathe to kill his love. There was nothing that ever said his love had to stay dead.

 I believe she was blamed as a co-conspirator in the attempted assassination of Vyashezlav Drac. At any rate, she was executed as a traitor in some form or another.
As for Sir Sorlons, he has been using a Doppleganger for many years to "replace" him as leader of the Chromatic Knights while he is busy on personal matters. The Doppleganger that Ghed Mneattor is unable to detect is Sorlons temporar replacement which spends more and more time in Sorlon's form. The Doppleganger has decided to permanently replace Sorlons, but as yet there is no definative statement that the Doppleganger has succeeded only that Sorlons is spending WAY too much time away from the Chromatic knights allowing the Doppleganger to make many decisions regarding the Chromatic Knights.
The Sorlons data all comes from the RPG books, which aren't exactly dated as to whether or not the Sorlon's information comes from before or after the start of CE, but it does give enough information as to the reason as to why a doppleganger has to avoid detection by Mneattor while portraying Sir Sorlons.

Actually, we do have later information about Sorlons: in Campaign IV, Sorlons and Mnettor either execute the dopple, or the real Sorlons. Which isn't quite made clear. _________________42,000 people die of starvation each day.And you don't really care.
