Wythien?

Postby Tokhuah on Fri Dec 12, 2008 2:22 pm

SPOILER: If you do not like complaining then please navigate out of this thread.

Wythien

Wythien?

WHYTHIEN?!?!

Look, I was not really expecting Tybast or Cordeos but... Whythien?

When I saw this card I wept... Of all the Characters from past sets how can this possibly be a card that any self respecting Elf players would want in 4E? Wythien is just bad, plain and simple. My one and only hope is that design changed the text box in some way to make the card actually useful. If not I will need to come up with new and more colorful words to express the suckiness, suckatude, suckalitiousness, that the card embodies...

Please spoil him now or my head may explode, and gentle brains fall...

BTW, this is just the beginning of my rants about this card. This initial post is brief because it is hard to see from the rage of indignation filling my eyes.

...what's wrong with Wythien? He's got an innate ranged strike, that's NEVER bad.

NEVER? Harldy, when you have much better. We are talking Elves here. Have you looked at the Level 2 Elves in 4E? He does not even make the grade if you were to throw out the top 3 Level 2 Ranged strikers*, maybe more. If he does not AT LEAST have Stealth replacing his old ability, which was completly useless by the way, then he is an insta-coaster.

*I would prove this to you but the Spoiler is down... ;)

I think Wythien is an outdated card. Like bringing a sword to a gunfight.

More than likely his spend order is going to be change to stealth successfully into opposing ranks. Sorta like how Sanga kish can scribe stuff with his order.

by "fine addition" u mean: "add a [Censor: poo] char because there are already 3 pretty good ones" right?

bringing tresven back as another lvl2 range striker wouldve been a better choice imo

You simple can't make each new card or reprinted card more powerful then a previous card, That was the problem with CE and EE its called power Creep, and there is no reason to make the card if it is pretty much the same as another card. So that leaves you with one option to make a good card. On the same level, but just a little differernt. In This case Wythien is.

If you think you are going to get a second level character with a direct power corralation to Kinnel, Shadith, and Artheon, then you are being foolish. He is an Acceptable character if you want to start a 2nd level Fighter and still have offense.

I doubt that he will replace either of the wizards starters any time soon as they are just too good, but the right deck it could happen.

Generally you need some one in the starting army to be capable of fixing ranks. It's not 2 hp, but it could soak a additional strike. Kinda a style question and better then a kick in the head.

@ Hedge: I think the +8 Stealth changes the nature of this discussion.

Having stealth +8 gives him 1.5 HP so he is now a rank holder starter with a built in ranged strike. He definitely moves up into a solid Elf starter in certain decks. Now my 43 copies of him sitting in the never use box can see the light of day again... ;)

BTW, it is fine to reprint average characters and leave them as is but not to reprint totally suck characters and leave them as is. If Dwarf players would have seen an old hoser card they would have been screaming to see what was up also. And if it was a Freek... well, we would have never heard the end of it... :p

Freeks are competitive right now, so a crap character likely wouldn't phase them.

Though, I can hear griping from most Non-Devs about Nuri if he gets through totally unchanged.
