 Bone Golem start
So if I can get me a few more Chill's Razors from my trade thread (Wohoo for shamless plugs!) I'd like to build Kilkahmeth running plentiful undead and recursion. My question is this: Has anyone tried running a start of 3x Bone Golems backed by 2x Skyyrek and found it effective? Mainly does the wound reduction gotten from the Bone Golems offset thier horrible AC? Also on the subject of recursion: Cyrus Netheryn. Is he any good? I wonder this because his react doesn't really seem to actually DO anything...can switching out random Elves and/or undead be that useful to warrent a spot?

Do Brine Fiend's 2hp offset their horrible AC? As far as Bone Golems? Like Brine Fiends, there's alot of ways to kill them in 1 shot, so if you're not running healing they may drop quicker than you can replace them. They have the additional drawback of forcing you into a 2nd rank start that produces zero offense on it's own. Cyrus Netheryn? Yes he's good. How are you reading that react that you perceive it to be no good? First of all if you kill Skyyrek (often you're opponent will avoid it) you get 2 characters back. You're aware that you can bring back the same character you killed right? Ready? He basically swaps out a spent or stunned charcater for a ready one. Ardaanalis maybe? Seems pretty good to me.

 Re: Bone Golem start
Ah I hadn't thought about bringing the same character back ready or w/ Skyyrak.
As far as Bone Golems having to start Skyyrak's that's one of the things I'm considering and trying to figure out if it's worth it. I think it might be anyway as when the Skyyraks die they'll bounce something back from the grave...

 Re: Bone Golem start
Hm, I think that doesn't work. Skyyrek is removed before he is killed, so you wouldn't have paid the costs for Cyrus.

 Re: Bone Golem start
When I last played I was running a Rustiqu Umbala deck with 2 Andel and 3 Bone Golem. It worked well enough.

 Re: Bone Golem start
Are you sure about that? It seems arguable that Cyrus Netheryn initiates the death sequence for Skyyrek, which is all that Cyrus' ability checks for. Then you would be able to bring back a level 1 and a level 2 undead from the discard. Skyyrek reacts during the death sequence, but he has already begun to die before he is removed from the game. As such, it seems reasonable that Cyrus' costs are considered paid regardless of where the character goes after that. As frequently occurs though, the whole "costs" part of an action and any possible ripples in their smooth operation may be tripping me up.

 Re: Bone Golem start
Can't Cyrus Netheryn also sacrifice himself to bring back that moldering cur from your discard pile?
If he can, it seems that hes a good way of adding 3 more of that character you need back into play.

 Re: Bone Golem start
Cyrus' ability will fail if you react with Skyyrek in response to killing him with Cyrus' ability. Its the same ruling that they made in regards to Cyrus killing Dark Monolith and Dark Monolith reacting to bring characters into play.

 Re: Bone Golem start
Yes he can. I also like him in this deck for casting counter spell which I run 2 of. If I don't draw into him then it's an easy forest of bone. I also run Severed of Bone so keeping him around has also been a good idea to up that DC. As for starts I let the healing do most of the work. I run Amatria, Rotale, Soulless, and then lvl 2 dog and Shadith/Kinnel. Has worked well for me, I tried the 3 Bone Golems and found that it really hurt me in the blitz, and if got any healing it just wasn't needed.

 Re: Bone Golem start
along those lines Snake, do you run any cleric control that makes the dog more likely to get his react off, or do you run that start simply to have some planar defense early on?

 Re: Bone Golem start
You can also use Cyrus even if you have no undead in the graveyard! Kill a spent Ardanaalis, bring back the same one, perform a strike! You can also One Last Time Cyrus and kill him to bring any 3 or lower undead back permanently, and Cyrus doesn't get RFG'd! (not sure if he can also perform a strike, though) Also, try Severed of Bone with Cyrus (and Knight of Falun and Tyyphera). They're all necromancers to stun a warlord 3 ranks away!

 Re: Bone Golem start
Bone golem is 2000 & late! Amatria has 11ac 2attk and a literally killer react.
And playing control spells to use the west wind is like limited wishing a mollusk helm

 Re: Bone Golem start
I don't know, first action Mud Slick on the opposing warlord followed by 2 +6 shots sounds kind of awesome.
