 improvisation
If a fighter with 5 skill plays thrust for a +0 and reacts with improvisation do they swing at +0 or +5? I have heard both answers . . .

 Re: improvisation
+5. The +0 is the base of the strike, and it gets replaced by his base skill. Nice trick.

 Re: improvisation
Except Thrust is a +0 and his base attack has nothing to do with the action, replacing his base attack doesn't change Thrust.

 Re: improvisation
except the +0 is a +0 base as items and actions can modify it, so it does get replaced, and rules team agreed, so yay

 Re: improvisation
Not the first time the ruling has ignored what the cards say.

 Re: improvisation
Yes it set and is using the strikes base attack and in no way says anything about the characters. improvisation changes the chars not the strike generated by an action that sets its own base attack. Thrust does say it replaces the chars base attack just sets its at +0, so changing the chars doesn't affect the strike generated by thrust.

 Re: improvisation
the action is not a physical thing like a character or an item, so it cannot produce a strike all on its own, the fighter playing thrust is striking, their base atk for the strike is +0, any discarded cards act as +5 modifiers, so the base +0 is still the character's base atk for the strike. from there improvisation swaps +0 to +skill

Not the first time you've misinterpreted the rules, I think is the phrase for which you were hunting...

 Re: improvisation
"his base ATK" = "the base ATK he is using for the aforementioned strike" If you want to get all rulebook literal, a character does not have a base atk. He has a primary atk, which AS NOTED IN THE QUOTED SECTION is the base atk of the first strike of an attack And all granted melee strikes that do not specify their own base. I mean, come on, Resto and ColdHeart agreed, for crying out loud. What more proof do you need?

 Re: improvisation

 Re: improvisation
If you are going to resurrect a ten-day-old thread, please actually contribute to the conversation. Either through a new question or, if a rules team member has not given a definitive answer, a more detailed, clearer answer to a contested aspect of the issue.
Necro-threading to share your favorite combo involving the cards in question is just spam.
