That's actually a mechanical decision rather than a story one. His card advantage, along with Behlial's, was just too powerful. Since one of the big things about CE was levelling the playing field by cutting the card draw, Saunginel got the axe.
And to make it official, Todd and Brent called the AEG Story Assassin to make sure it was a done, tight and sealed case.

I was just joking about Sanguinel making it into EE. Even if he wasn't dead in the story Sanguinel will never see print again.

Yep. Looks like Dunbar bought it from a missile shot.

Donovan Che'har seems to have bought it, courtesy of Keziah and her deadly little daggers.
From Acrobatics:
"Nobody tells me where I can and cannot go, Nothrog. Send my regards to Donovan, when you see him in hell." - Keziah

Seems to me that Bershar Nin may have bought it.
In CE there are a few cards with Krun talking about freeing the slaves and then on Garrotte;
"Speak up, Nin. I can't hear you apologize for what you said about Krun." - Rreg'jenn

Brutal Cut
"You'll never hit the high notes like that, Forlourne." - Trevor Cartwright"
If Forlourne is not dead, he's at least not having a good day.
Poultice Sack
"No, Alaric. Don't die. Don't you dare. We have work for you still, Zeal and I." - Pious
Not sure if he was healed. He was at least critically wounded.

.....Donovan Che'har is added, as for dunbar, forlourne and alaric, all seem a bit iffy to me, unless someone has something else to back them up.

Forlourne probably bought it. The card is named "Brutal Cut" after all, and there's nothing else to indicate he survived. For that matter, Forlourne isn't part of CE, anyway, nor does it look like he's going to be reprinted any time soon (his ability belongs to the Devs by CE design standards).
Alaric probably did survive. You can be sure Zeal/Soren Nihil and Pious are going to ensure his recovery for their own purposes.

Dunbar iffy? Of course he's dead! Bob wouldn't be keeping his head quite so far down if his loyal bodyguard was still alive to protect it.

Technically, Dunbar was Robert's aid, not his bodyguard.
Still, I agree that he is dead. That card implied a nice, embarassing death for a wimpy rat of a character.

Forlourne was a loyal servant to Alia Rowan who (up until her death?) was a Freek.
I think Trevaine may be criticizing Forlourne for not torturing properly, because being a servant to the lady of rowan would make him a servant to the freeks. She only asked him to stay behind during her exile to be her eyes and ears.

Looks like you can at least add Cador from his duel
Suffer -
Impossibly, the fallen wizard stood again, leveling his blood gaze at Cador. "Suffer."
also, Rustiq Umbala, Baqbou Umbala, and Absinthe from the new fiction.

There's no indication that Cador dies from the attack (I think he will, but there's no defintate answer).
Also, the way the card puts it, Euian doesn't have long to live either.
